This gathering is held in the meeting room at Saint Aidan’s church and is run for the three congregations that worship there, but hosted by the Uniting Church people. It is always well attended and particularly valued by folk who live alone. Newcomers and visitors find it a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends. Birthdays are celebrated with cake, candles and song.
There is no set format, but often someone will feel moved to entertain with stories of recent travels, share traditions from their countries of origin or reminisce on their past lives. This impromptu part of the gathering is a great part of its charm.
We have a delightful time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. All are welcome to come for a cuppa and some fellowship. Please feel free to join us.
The group supports a scholarship program for a tertiary student through JWOC (Journeys Within Our Community) – a community charitable organisation in Cambodia. Small donations are collected at each meeting. One student has completed his qualifications and is now working as a teacher to improve the lives of young people in Siem Reap. Each month, the student sends an email providing an update of the progress of his studies and sends photos and stories of Cambodian life and culture. These are shared with the group.
