Keeping Warm

Keeping Warm - Beaut Beanies

For the past two years Beaut Beanies have sent big bags of children’s beanies to Dr Laura Marshall to give out at Ampilatwaja, an aboriginal community in the NT. This is where winter nighttime temperatures drop to zero and below. Dr Laura sends her thanks for our latest gifts, ‘One of the beanies is keeping this little chap very warm. It’s really cold here so they have been excitedly received by all the children and everyone is looking VERY colourful. Thank you so much for all your kindness, Love and hugs, Laura.’

Very few people in the community have or wear shoes so foot infections are common and cuts easily turn septic. One man lost some fingers recently after neglecting a cut. A young inexperienced couple were worried about their baby, thinking he had a rash, but it was goose bumps brought on from the cold. His only clothing was a nappy. Laura and her husband, Justin, a nurse, run the centre clinic and are absolutely committed to improving aboriginal health. It is so good to be able to help them and the children.
